Frank Davis s Leadership Style - 1290 Words
Boss, Frank Davisââ¬â¢s leadership can be characterized as highly task-oriented but low-relationship oriented. He is constantly concerned with the with means of achieving goals. For example, when Davis tells McDonald that, ââ¬Å"with the right sales strategy, my projections are attainable,â⬠he is referring to adherence to a proper strategy to achieve a target. Similarly, his desire to monitor operations is exemplified when he claims that email updates, fancy presentations, and models are, ââ¬Å"not only good politics, but also proved to [him] that [Thomas Green] was working effectively.â⬠In contrast, Davisââ¬â¢s task-orientation is complemented by low relationship-oriented leadership style. His failure to befriend and accommodate Green is seen countless time throughout the conflict and his perception of how the job should be done is rigidly against a networking approach. When he calls upon Green to ââ¬Å"stop making calls purely for the purpose of meeting peopleà ¢â¬ in an email to McDonald, Davis explicitly shows his lack value placed in relationships. Similarly, after Green expressed his concerns with the sales projections, Davis tells McDonald that ââ¬Å"Thomasââ¬â¢s negative attitude is not what we need on this team,â⬠and the directly continues by explaining why the projections (or tasks) that he set can and should be attained. This blatant hasty attack on Greenââ¬â¢s character shows his lack of commitment to developing a relationship with green.
